 Music video evaluation

We did not plan very well. As a group, we worked together on a mood board and then the treatment and by the time that was done, we needed to film so everything that needed to be done we had to rush. There was a little idea of what we wanted to do but then we had to do our best as things changed and all came together within a few days. The planning helped a little bit as we were working together on the base ideas, we had stuck, and we made it from there.

We used 2 JVC cameras in the performance and 1 JVC camera in the narrative. We used lighting and small remote lights which we had on a multi-colour setting that would flash the colours at the band members. We also used a projector to show a video of effects onto the band and used the projection of all the shots. In the performance, we had all the equipment and leads as well as amps in the video.  We had to change our locations and use a projector to help make the set light whistle we kept light and interest on the members. Onset had the projector off when filming as it would be in the band members eyes, and we did not want to blind them with the light.

We were not able to film at Stanley Park on the day we wanted to, and this was the only time the band were free. We then had to film in the studio and change all our plans two days before, nothing we had planned in the performance was able to come across we then had to replan quickly so everything could fall into place with the production of the music video. We then had the bad luck of when we went to film the narrative, we forgot to collect the tripod from the college, so we were unable to do still shots. We tried our best but then decided it is best if we do it shaky, zoomed and sometimes blurred to show the little silly ness of it and show that it was fooling around and messing just caught on camera which worked out well for us.

We were unable to film on the bandstand as there was a bird flu outbreak in the park, we did not know about it until we walked down to the bandstand where we met a barrier with this sign on it. Unable to use the bandstand we had to thin of different paces to shoot so we used the clock tower, and this was a good example of one of the times we had to compromise.

Filming was hard as we had to make sure all 8 people in the production were ok with a certain date which was changed 5 times, the narrative was meant to happen the same day as the performance filming which then was pushed back 4 days and one more day as well as that because we were only able to do an hour of filming because people had work.

There were different roles in the video, I had the ad the primary camera job which I would film the performance up-close as well as most of the narrative, Harvey and Ruby did do filming as well. I was also in charge of the performance directing. Ruby was in charge of the narrative directing as well as making sure all shots and things we need to be filmed were done. Harvey oversaw lighting as well location recce, he was also the actor in the narrative. alking to each other to make sure all our ideas whereon point was important as we wanted to do. We also communicated in the edit to use different editing ideas as well as making the edit how we thought it would look like during the filming of the production. We wanted to make some after effect marks and drawings onto the instruments, but our deadline stops us as we knew we did not have the time to make that happen so instead we had to not include it in our video.

The up-close shots of the band when they were performing work very well, I like when I captured them on the beat, so you were able to see them when the new verses were coming in. Having so many clips was good for when I came to editing because you could have the clips from the up-close of the guitars the drums the singers and this made it easier to get the clips and add what you need from them and make the edit.

I want to repeat the up-close shots of the band when they were next to the instrument and dancing like when the bass was dancing whistle, he was playing his part. I also want to include the idea of lighting as it was one of the best parts of the edit. â€‹

When editing I made the decision to use the band wide shot as a base and then add the clips from the narrative and add them in. I did this because all the footage was on teams and took a long time to download so I was able to use this first and then waited for the footage to download. When editing I went through wrote down places where I wanted to include certain things in the song and when I could add them, I did and then made sure everything lined up and then fitted in with the music.

On my timeline the highlighted area is the music video, there is another section which is other parts of the video which I can take, clips and things from the different clips then once I am done with the video I cut it out and then I can put another one on the timeline in that spot. On the track, I have Got four different audio tracks, one is the cover song made by the band. The second is the wide shot audio which I have had to line up because the audio on the performance set has the song playing so I can link it with the track. the third is from the up-close takes and in this I can hear the audio and see where about it goes on the timeline. The fourth one is for narrative and that will be deleted or just stay there because o don't need it in my audio. on the left there are three highlighted "M"s and they are on mute so it cannot be heard I can unmute if I need to hear the audio of the track and if there is a certain part I need to hear.

This part of my edit has a lot more markers than the others and this is because there are drum beats on every marker and this is so I can add some of the clips from the narrative as well as close ups from the band. doing this also helpsif I need toskip a beat or cut to the edit with the clip lengh some I am able to make it more catchy. this was important as well for the end when I had to cut to the beat with the walk up.

There are two different lines on the photo above because I wanted to organise my work with one line the wide shot, one line performance freehand shots and then the last line narrative line. I had an extra one on top just in case I needed to do some cuts and pastes, but mainly they are on these two lines. as you can see there are quite a few changes through the sequence. There are different shots from different members so they have different blocks that all need to be lined up. There are a few effects that I have added, you can see I have added them with the purple squares on the tracks. All I have added is brightness and contrast onto.

The green markers are for making the music the video and all the key moments in the song. as you can see some are lined up with the clips and some aren't this is because some of the markers are for the narrative and this is also including the beat as you can see on the lower bar there are the markers in the same distance as they are the beat of the song and this can help when putting videos in cause you don't want to have too much of the same clip so it helps manage how it should be used for.
