Documentary evaluation

The idea of Insulate Britain was something that would be current and something I could get a lot of footage and access at the time of. The Insulate Britain protests gave me the perfect opportunity to present what they were doing and explain what and who they are and why they are sitting on the roads and stopping the traffic on the M25. Having planned for not having the insu-eight company in the documentary helped me as they were not replying in days, so I cut them out them out I did try to reach out more than o more than once but did not go through, so I changed to plan B which turned

I used a JVC Camera mainly but also used a Cannon DLSR, I used many audio io recording devices including shotgun microphones, rode reporter with an external microphone and microphones on boom poles. The lighting in the studio was a mix between big background lights and point lights on subjects. There were a few settings on the cameras which I wish I could have changed like the lighting and the focus as they were both out just a little bit on the wide shots. I also wish I did audio on the bridge better with a wind muffler as well as putting the micro phone closer to my mouth.

I filmed my interview with Insulate Britain but I filmed myself separately so I could include myself with the whole set. I did come with a problem from recording on teams I only had gabby on half of the screen. I also used different Shots and different cameras during my interview, so it adds visual interest as well as a different few as a conversation.

I planned everything and did everything in order however I forgot to do an ending and outro, so I did a voiceover of the documentary with helicopter footage as I did not have the time to go out to do It. Filming the intro on the bridge I forgot my SD Card which slowed us down filming and now I always make sure I have two just in case.

In my edit I had to cut out so much as I only had about ten minutes, but I had hours of footage. We could only film a 5-10 minute, so I had to pick which topics and clips I would like to use.

â€‹Filming took place in about a week however Insulate Britain missed their interview, so I had to reschedule it a week later. This stop me from starting my edit as they were the main point of the documentary. In the documentary, I was the director, producer, editor, camera operator but I also had some help of other students for when I could not be behind the camera, I made the most out of what I had so I did not have to rely on other people when I am able to do all myself.

How did communication help with your production

Communicating through my production with people that helped me was important so they knew what my idea and vision were and so I knew what they were doing and if I needed to change anything I felt that needed to, I could ask and make sure what was happening was right and would work for me when I came to the edit.

There was a problem with one of the cameras that went out of focus and were also not in the right brightness. I should have checked it beforehand but instead, my camera operator said it was ok which later they then say they did not check. In premier pro, I changed the brightness so you can see a little better and then I also make it a little more focused, however, the filter added a lot of grain onto the footage is I could only do it a little.

I was happy with the footage I collected and cut it into the edit as it added a lot of content to my documentary, and this made it more interesting and added a support for everything that was being said and show the protesters in the road and the dangerous things going on I was happy how I edited them into the footage so I could prove anything the interviewees were saying I could back it all up.

I want to repeat the credits and improve on them as well as a title sequence to introduce the documentary. It made it look more professional and added a better look instead of just putting an interview on screen. I also like how I did multiple interviews so I could see the different points of all different people in different areas of the world. I also wanted to include the content that was being filmed by the public so I could back people's words up and I saw all the different points of views, so there was a lot of different perspectives which I would like to repeat in the future. There was background music in the first half of the edit and then not that much in the second half I did this because there were more interviews in the second part, and I wanted the viewer to focus on what the interviewee was saying.
